PhotonHub Investment Readiness Coaching Investor Matchmaking

PhotonHub, a European platform for supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in photonics and deeptech, is pleased to announce the launch of its second Investment Readiness Coaching and Investor Matchmaking Programme of the year. The programme is designed to help early growth stage deep tech start-ups dealing with innovative technologies and/or photonics to improve their pitch, present their financials, understand the due diligence process, demonstrate their success, practice pitching, and close deals with investors.

HPhos at SPIE Photonics West 2023

HPhos was present at the world’s largest annual photonics event, SPIE Photonics West, from 31 January until 2 February in San Francisco representing our members and raising awareness of the Greek photonics cluster to a focused, engaged audience. In addition, our team had the opportunity to present projects HPhos is involved, such as the PhotonHubSEER, PULSE and AEOLUS projects. The PhosPrint company, the winner of the third place at the 13th annual SPIE Startup Challenge, was being present at HPhos booth.

PhosPrint came in third place at the 13th annual SPIE Startup Challenge, winning $2,500, with its novel bio-printing technology that repairs in vivo human tissue during surgery.

CEO and Co-Founder of PhosPrint, Ioanna Zergioti, presented PhosPrint's pitch during the challenge and Clinical Director, Apostolos Klinakis, represented PhosPrint at the event. ‘’It was a great experience for me,’’ noted Ioanna Zerioti. ‘’It was exciting for us to have the opportunity to present our startup at the SPIE Startup Challenge. It was great to work with the judges, and to get feedback from senior investors in the field.’’

The SPIE Startup Challenge, a pitch competition held annually at Photonics West, showcases new businesses, products, and technologies that address critical needs by utilizing photonics in the areas of healthcare and deep tech. It was supported by Founding Partner Jenoptik, Lead Sponsors Edmund Optics, Hamamatsu, MKS Instruments and Thorlabs; and Supporting Sponsors NextCorps Luminate and Photonics Media.

Photonics21 Innovation Award

Photonics21 established this dedicated Innovation Challenge to push for more entrepreneurship in photonics. The Photonics21 Innovation Award addresses PhD students, master students, young entrepreneurs, and makers alike who have an idea for a photonics product that can transform into a real business or product. This idea can be already described in a Master or PhD thesis or in a business plan or the like. Any person active in the field of optics and photonics, may apply for the "Photonics21 Innovation Award".

A great success for a member of HPhos

The spin-off PhosPrint is one among the 75 SMEs selected for funding in the most recent applications from EIC Accelerator new wave of deep tech start-ups.

PhosPrint is the first Greek company selected by the EIC Accelerator scheme and will translate their research results on the Laser bioprinting device and in vivo applications into pre-clinical and clinics trials.

The 3D laser printer that PhosPrint has developed, allows the successful printing of 100M cells in just 1.6 minutes, targeting enterocystoplasty and bladder cancer. The printing of cells takes place during in vivo surgery and has been effectively tested in pigs. Full adaptation of this method from medical facilities and hospitals after the preclinical trials, prerequires the successful completion of three stages of clinical trials.

PhosPrint’s funding from EIC Accelerator will be used towards the first clinical trial phase.
